Comprehensive SEXUALITY Education
As Youth Coalition, advocating for Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is one of our advocacy priorities! Young people must be at the center of CSE because an approach that understands the lived realities of young people is the most effective way of realizing young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. We must listen to young people in the conversation around CSE because it directly affects their lives! Some of our key demands regarding CSE include:
All children, adolescents, and young people must have access to age-appropriate CSE.
CSE programs must include and celebrate all young people, including diverse ethnicities, body types, genders, sexualities, and dis/abilities.
Young people must be involved in CSE curriculum development, with youth-led accountability mechanisms for curriculum implementation.
Implementation of CSE needs to cater to the scenarios in which young people feel more comfortable, giving adequate space to out-of-school initiatives, peer-to-peer education, and other youth-led efforts on CSE.
Pleasure and enjoyment of our sexuality must be part of CSE! We no longer want fear-based education that stigmatizes the diverse ways in which young people inhabit our bodies.
New media and digital technologies must supplement the development and delivery of CSE, with innovative methods to ensure access to CSE for young people with limited access to technology in collaboration with grassroots organizations.
