  • Aqilla is an Indonesian feminist activist who developed the Instagram-based advocacy and discussion platform Feminis Yogya, which focuses on gender equality and feminism issues. Through this feminist digital movement, she and her friends launched an online sexual violence complaint program to refer survivors to the nearest legal counsel or assistance service agency. In 2018, Aqilla also contributed to establishing a collective movement campaigning against the taboo of abortion and unintended pregnancies in Indonesia through songs, poetry, dances, and posters. Aqilla previously worked as a Community Organizer at a local NGO focusing on Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention, specifically men’s involvement in violence elimination, where she facilitated the community activism to improve knowledge and behavior in gender justice for both men and women. She is now mostly working on youth engagement on topics of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) while also involved in Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) among rural-based youth and Islamic-based institutions. In early March 2022, Aqilla was appointed as a Country Facilitator for the Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainable Development (APFSD) Youth Forum and the Asia and the Pacific regional ECOSOC Youth Forum 2022. As a country facilitator, she was responsible for putting together and presenting the Youth Call to Action for the higher-level representatives in gender mainstreaming into youth meaningful participation in climate action and policy processes.

  • Aqilla is also a member of the peace literacy movement aiming to prevent the spread of hoaxes and hate speech among young people in the country. She is also part of the project management team of a global movement that promotes peace, conflict resolution, and a world free of violence.
