Wieke Rianne Vink is a Dutch human rights lawyer. She studied international law, human rights law and psychology in the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. For her master in Human Rights Law at SOAS of the University of London, she was awarded the Paul Webley Alphawood Scholarship, to specialize in the promotion and protection of LGBT rights. She also completed a minor in Gender Studies.

Wieke has been a human rights activist since the age of 15, starting at the Youth Board of Plan Netherlands. She joined Youth Coalition at 18, as the then youngest member. During her first year at YC, she served as Secretary on its Board of Directors. She was also Co-Chair of the Young Women’s Health and Rights Task Force. Other highlights include her participation at the 2009 Internet Governance Forum, the 2010 United Nation’s session of the Commission on the Status of Women and the 2012 AWID International Forum, representing YC.

Back in the Netherlands, Wieke served as Dutch Youth Representative for European Affairs from 2009 to 2012. In this position, she worked with national governments and institutions of the European Union and Council of Europe on youth policy and youth participation. Wieke also works with ProDemos – the Dutch House for Democracy and Rule of Law and as an independent writer.

YC is an organization near and dear to Wieke’s heart. “The YC has brought me a wealth of knowledge, skills, experiences and friendships, that I am truly grateful for. Knowing that I have a global family with common ideals for a more just future has shaped and changed the course of my life. Clearly, YC’s focus on sexual and reproductive rights remains relevant as ever.”
