I've been involved in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights since mid-2012. I started as an intern for Family Planning International, helping with the administration of an Open Hearing on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Pacific. After that I was hooked: I became Communications and Fundraising Coordinator for the Family Planning Association of New Zealand Inc and joined the Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand (ALRANZ) as a member of the Executive Committee.
I recently completed a Masters in Development Studies on the topic of youth mainstreaming in Pacific development. I analysed the attitudes to youth and prevalence of youth participation in New Zealand-based NGOs working in the Pacific and made a number of recommendations for implementing youth mainstreaming in Pacific development initiatives.
I currently work for an organisation called Volunteer Service Abroad, which recruits and sends skilled volunteers to carry out community-driven assignments in countries around the Pacific.
I'm originally from Fiji and my mum's Australian so I love bouncing around my Pacific triangle of NZ-Fiji-Australia. There's a lot of work to be done in different areas of SRHR in all these countries and a lot of fun to be had scoping it out!
